WorkForce Solutions Deep East Texas Board

The Deep East Texas Local Workforce Development Board, Inc. is the board of directors for WorkForce Solutions Deep East Texas. The board is one of 28 workforce boards in Texas . The board is a policy making body that plans, oversees, and evaluates workforce development programs in the 12-county deep east Texas workforce development area. To carry out our mission, the board creates and maintains partnerships with local businesses and industries and the community at large. The board has an annual operating budget of over $15,000,000.

The board is composed of 31 members appointed by the county judge of their respective counties. The board is business-led with a majority of the members coming from and representing the private sector. Other board members represent labor and community-based organizations, education, economic development organizations, and state agencies. Board members serve on one of six standing committees that make recommendations to the full board for final approval. All meetings are open to the public.

The board has developed a five-year strategic and operational plan that is reviewed and modified by the board annually. The plan development is guided by the board's vision, mission, and strategic goals.

Mission Statement

It is the desire of the Deep East Texas Workforce Development Board to develop a workforce development system which will match jobs with people through a partnership between education, labor, and the public and the private sectors in an accountable, efficient and effective manner.

To accomplish this we will be guided by the following principles:

The workforce system will be locally controlled and driven by the public-private workforce development board appointed by local elected officials.
It shall be the responsibility of the workforce development board to make policy decisions, provide oversight, and to evaluate the programs which make up the workforce delivery system.
The workforce system must be efficient and cost effective. This shall be achieved by integrating programs so as to eliminate duplication and overlap among service providers.
The workforce system should offer services to a universal population of job seekers and employers as is appropriate to meet the diverse needs of the population.
The workforce system will treat customers and employers with concern, dignity, respect, and courtesy.
The workforce system will require that its customers share responsibility for their outcomes.
