According to our Labor Market Information team in Austin:

Employment in the Deep East WDA fell over the month by 0.1 percent. Over-the-year data revealed an increase in employment by 1.8 percent, or by 2,419 workers.

Of the twelve counties, Tyler County had the largest over-the-year growth in employment by adding 821 workers, followed by Angelina County with 723 workers, and finally, Polk County with 354 workers.

Over-the-month unemployment in the Deep East WDA experienced a decrease of 0.8 percent. Over the year, unemployment decreased by 7.6 percent, or by 843 persons within this WDA. The WDA’s unemployment rate remained the same over the month.

The highest over-the-month unemployment rate was in Newton County at 11.7 percent. The lowest rate was found in Nacogdoches County at 4.7 percent. 

Continued claims for unemployment benefits fell over the month from 2,564 claims to 2,443 claims. Tyler County, at 45.6 percent, had the largest over-the-year percentage decrease in continued claims.
