University Channel Erosion & Restoration ProjectProject Summary:In the 2004 Bond Referendum, funding was approved by the Citizens of Garland to improve and stabilize the University Channel from Syracuse Drive to Duck Creek. The City has retained Freese and Nichols, Inc. as the design professional to prepare plans and specifications for the University Channel Erosion & Restoration Project.
The University Channel Erosion & Restoration Project consists of erosion and flood control for approximately 3700 linear feet of University Channel between East Kingsley Road and Duck Creek Drive. The design will address existing erosion problems and provide protection measures as warranted for properties adjacent to the channel. The project also includes rehabilitation of the Duck Creek Greenbelt pond downstream of Duck Creek Drive, and design for the construction of a closed storm drainage system along Columbia Boulevard and Vanderbilt Drive to capture High School athletic field runoff.
Austin Filter Systems have been awarded the contract and the project is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 29th, 2008! They will start from the upstream end (near Syracuse) and work their way down toward the pond at Duck Creek Road. City crews will construct the Vanderbilt Storm System improvements after Austin Filter Systems has completed the channel portion of the project.
